Croatia have advanced to the quarter final of the ongoing FIFA World Cup in Qatar after defeating Japan 3-1 on penalties.
Japan took the lead through Daizen Maeda in the first half before Ivan Perisic headed home an equaliser for Croatia.
The 2018 runners-up goalkeeper Dominik Livakovic saved three out of the four penalties played by Japan as Croatia won the shoot-out 3-1.
Japan, trying to reach the World Cup quarter-finals for the first time in their history, aimed to claim another big European scalp after beating Germany and Spain in the group stage in Qatar but Croatia denied the Asian side.
