President Muhammadu Buhari has celebrated Nigerian chef, Hilda Effiong Bassey, popularly known as Hilda Baci, for breaking the Guinness World Record for the ‘longest cooking time’.
Hilda, on Monday morning, surpassed the current record for the “longest cooking marathon by an individual” after clocking in at 87 hours and 50 minutes.
Although the Guinness World Records has not yet confirmed Baci as the new world record holder as it claimed it will have to review all evidence before confirmation.
Commending Hilda Baci on Monday, President Buhari described her as a cultural icon whose drive, ambition and resilience have brought great interest and insight into the uniqueness of Nigerian food and have placed Nigeria in the global spotlight.
Buhari wrote on his Twitter handle saying, “I share the immense joy of all Nigerians as Hilda Bassey Effiong (Hilda Baci) makes history by breaking the world record for longest cooking marathon.
“A great day for Nigeria. We’re all very proud of what she has personally accomplished—and placing Nigeria in the global spotlight.
“Hilda’s drive, ambition and resilience have brought great interest and insight into the uniqueness of Nigerian food. She is now a cultural icon, and I believe that this feat will inspire many more young people, in Nigeria and beyond, to follow in her footsteps.”
