Knocks have continued to trail the brazen attack on Lamidi Apapa, the factional chairman of the Labour Party after mob believed to be Peter Obi supporters, ‘Obidients’ attacked him in the Court of Appeal premises after the hearing of the Presidential Election Tribunal.
Apapa was subjected to brutal attacks and uncouth jeers while making an attempt to address the media after stepping out of the courtroom following the adjournment of proceedings by Justice Haruna Tsammani-led five-member panel.
On getting poised to field questions from reporters, a group of youths that identified themselves as “Obidients”, shoved him away from the cameras, insisting that he lacked the right to speak for the party.
In the chaos that ensued, Apapa was seen being pushed back and forth by the livid youths, with one member of the mob snatching his cap from his head.
It took the intervention of armed security operatives to whisk the factional LP, who appeared helpless, away from the mob.
He was subsequently taken into protective custody by policemen attached to the court.
Reacting, Nigerians have condemned the act which they described as an affront on democracy and the nation, by and large.
They called on Obi to call his mob, who were quite famous for violent and bullyish acts during the pre-2023 election days, to order in the collective struggle to foster a peaceful nation.
@beninghone: The lovers of democracy m0bbed a man in court premises! Obidients rejoiced.
I Hope when the table turns y’all won’t cry…. Just a reminder!
The same heediots cried of being m0bbed in Lagos!
The court must bring this people to full wrath of the law!
@renoomokri: Almost daily, Nigerians come on social media to complain about police brutality. But look at what Nigerians did to Lamidi Apapa, a factional national chairman of the Labour Party at the PEPC today. If many of us are given the power the police have, we will do far worse than their complained behaviour. There is a Seun Kuti in most of us. It would have even been better to have ignored Lamidi Apapa if you disagree with him. Treat him like a pariah. But to mob him in front of a court? Very undemocratic.
@Foluso_Official: The innocent man was assaulted! You cannot want a better Nigeria and support the attack against Lamidi Apapa. In court for goodness sake.
When did we get it wrong as a nation to have lunatics as agents of new Nigeria.
Peter Obi must call his supporters to order.
@MrKunle_Cole: Obi was in court and didn’t say anything about the attack on Lamidi .. Sad stuff
