President Bola Tinubu has announced the new dates for the national population and housing census, which was postponed in April, according to Nasir Kwarra, the Chairman of the National Population Commission.
Kwarra made this disclosure on Thursday after briefing the President at the Aso Rock Presidential Villa, Abuja.
At the briefing, the NPC submitted its report to the President, who will carefully study it to make an informed decision on the appropriate date for the nationwide exercise.
During the meeting, Kwarra highlighted the need for additional financial provisions due to the extended delay of the census.
He emphasized that as the delay continues, the financial requirements of the exercise expand.
Kwarra said, “We briefed him (President Tinubu) fully on the level of our preparedness, the outcomes that we envisage and I’d like to say that Mr. President has graciously approved to support the Commission in the conduct of the census and our preparatory activities.”
The NPC Chairman added, “So we’ll continue our preparations and we’ll hear from him eventually, that is, the date that the census will take place because we’ve made a submission to him that he will study before getting back to us.”
Kwarra shared that the President has assured the commission of his support in this vital undertaking.
He expressed gratitude to Tinubu for recognizing the significance of data for national planning and development.
