The much-awaited ministerial list released today came with the highlight of women making 25% of the list, a development that has sparked excitement within the female community in further conviction of featuring prominently in President Bola Ahmed Tinubu’s administration.
Tinubu, on Thursday, submitted the ministerial nominees list comprising of 28 persons of which seven women made the cut, to the senate for screening and confirmation with some more expected to be submitted in sequel.
The female ministers include former deputy spokesperson for the ruling All Progressives Congress (APC), Hannatu Musawa.
Musawa was recently appointed by Tinubu as Special Adviser on Culture and Entertainment Economy.
Other female nominees include former Imo State Commissioner for Finance and Coordinating Economy, Doris Uzoka-Anite, and an ex-member of the House of Representatives, Nkiru Onyejiocha.
Others are APC National Women Leader and former Cross River Commissioner for Health Betta Edu; ex-Executive Director (Business Development), Nigeria Export-Import (NEXIM) Bank Stella Okotete; former Commissioner of the National Commission for Refugees, Migrants, and Internally Displaced Persons (NCFRMI) Imaan Suleman Ibrahim, and the only female presidential aspirant of the APC in the 2023 general elections, Uju Kennedy Ohanenye.
This is consistent with Tinubu’s promise of 35 per cent affirmative action for women in appointments as with other promises the president has swung into action in delivering as a leader with unequivocal integrity in less than 60 days of being in office.
More women names are yet expected as Tinubu stated that the list submitted on Thursday was not exhaustive, as more nominees would be sent to the Senate.
