The Senate under the leadership of Godswill Akpabio has granted approval for the appointment of 45 out of 48 ministerial nominees provided by President Bola Tinubu.
The list comprises nine individuals who have previously served as state governors.
The nominees confirmed include the immediate past Governor of Rivers State, Nyesom Wike, the Deputy Majority Senate Leader and former Governor of Ebonyi State, Senator Dave Umahi; former Minister of state, Labour and Employment, Festus Keyamo, SAN, Lateef Fagbemi, SAN; Hon. Olubunmi Tunji Ojo, and Dele Alake as Ministers Designate.
Former Kaduna State Governor, Mallam Nasir El-Rufai, Senator Abubakar Danladi and Stella Okotete are the three nominees awaiting confirmation.
According to Akpabio, the Senate did not confirm them because of security reports that must be cleared.
The process began on 27th July when President Tinubu, through his Chief of Staff, Femi Gbajabiamila, submitted the initial list of 28 nominees to the Senate for confirmation.
Following this, an additional list of 19 nominees was sent on 3rd August to complete the comprehensive roster of candidates.
This development marks a crucial step in the formation of President Tinubu’s cabinet, as the appointed ministers are set to play pivotal roles in shaping the nation’s future.
