The leaked controversial audio tape that revealed Peter Obi’s dangerous plot to incite a ‘religious war’ in the last presidential election has rattled his camp and prompted a witchhunt for the source of the damaging leak, PODIUM REPORTERS can exclusively confirm.
Although the party has taken an official position to deny the tape and attack its credibility online, sources close to the candidate have confirmed to our newsroom that he has authorized a broad investigation aimed at uncovering the individuals or groups responsible for the leak.
They claim Obi is wary that his inner circle may have been infiltrated by PDP agents intent on scuttling his post-election agenda to remain the main opposition, a position expected to help him consolidate his gains in the last cycle ahead of another challenge in 2027, having conceded that his suit challenging the election outcome in the court will fail.
But while Obi’s searchlight may be on some of the hangers-on he ferried from the PDP to the Labour Party, sources are confirming to PODIUM REPORTERS that a Nollywood actor who latched on to the ‘Obi Wave’ and worked his way to an appointment as a spokesperson of the campaign may be the undetected peep-hole for the PDP.
Okonkwo’s abiding loyalty to Atiku
Mr Kenneth Okonkwo, an actor renowned for his performance in low-budget Nollywood flicks centred around occultic rituals, dealt a serious blow to the defence of the Obidients when he all but confirmed the authenticity of the tape with a Twitter thread.
In the thread, Okonkwo urged Nigerians to disregard the interpretations made by the media platform that reported the leak, suggesting instead that Obi’s direct appeal to Christians was a balancing act to counter an assumed advantage secured by Muslims.
But his statement did not go down well with other members of the party who were quick to accuse him of deliberate sabotage. Although their accusation may have been whimsical and informed by damage control, some well-placed sources have illustrated the actor’s links to Atiku Abubakar of the PDP and his likely role in the debacle.
Arsonist and firefighter
According to a source, Kenneth Okonkwo is playing the role of arsonist and firefighter. “He leaked the tape to the PDP and has now confirmed its authenticity with that thread, although he did that under the guise of clarifying the context,” the source said.
“What many did not know is that Kenneth Okonkwo has for years relied on Atiku Abubakar’s dubious generosity for sustenance and was a mole inserted in the Obi campaign by the PDP candidate to monitor proceedings and acquire information that may be helpful to cause an internal implosion in the party when the time was right,” the source continued.
“This tape is only one of his spy actions. He has leaked several other documents and clips to the PDP that informed some of the attacks Obi suffered in the course of the campaign and that damaged his appeal.”
“Those who are wondering how Obi finished below Atiku in the race despite overshadowing him as the opposition are not factoring the inside damage done by Atiku loyalists that were assigned to work for the PDP inside the Labour Party.”
Another source affirmed the link, noting Okonkwo’s double-agent role in the tape scandal.
“The question remains why he was so eager to make that thread verifying that the conversation did happen, even though his other colleagues took the opposite stance. He was merely completing his mission. He leaked the tape, knew it was authentic, and said as much to the world.”
“Now Obi will struggle to defend himself against accusations that he ran a dark and divisive campaign, thus putting Atiku back in a comfortable position as the only serious and viable opposition.”
