Nigeria’s main opposition party, the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP), has been forced to halt its campaign following the London hospitalization of its candidate, Alhaji Atiku Abubakar, whose long battle with an unknown ailment has hampered his physical activeness and ability to focus, reports say.
The former Vice President was reportedly flown from Dubai, a location he made his personal abode to evade media attention as he manages the ailment, to London to seek emergency care after the ailment progressed negatively, rendering him unable to resume his campaign back home.
A source within the PDP confirmed the development, noting widespread and anxiety over the wellbeing of the candidate.
“Atiku is not feeling well. He was rushed to London from Dubai where is now presently bedridden. Of course we are all concerned,” the source said.
The report provides a disturbing answer to recent query over the whereabouts of the candidate whose sudden disappearance was initially explained away as a ‘festive break’ from the campaign. Other sources said his plans to keep the ailment at bay to prosecute the campaign failed, leaving him with no choice but to seek medical care.
Recall that Atiku was recently filmed experiencing a great difficulty to make it down a few flight of stairs, requiring the support of two men to make what was a short trip to the rostrum to deliver his address at a campaign event.
