The National Cashew Association of Nigeria says that Nigeria earned N14 billion from exporting raw cashew in the last one year. It said that the earnings could increase if the Federal Government and subnational levels invested in the sector and supported local processing of cashew. The Economic and Financial Crimes Commission (EFCC) has arrested the Speaker of the Ogun State House of Assembly, Rt. Hon. Olakunle Oluomo over alleged financial crimes. It was gathered that Oluomo was arrested around 9 am today at the Murtala Mohammed International Airport, Lagos. A Magistrates Court sitting in Kano has ordered that a 37-year-old man, Jamilu Ahmed, be remanded in a correctional facility for allegedly beating his younger brother, Alhassan, 30 to death. The police charged Ahmed, who resides at Chediyar Kuda Quarters Kano, with culpable homicide. Magistrate Farouk Ibrahim-Umar rejected the plea of Ahmed. Ibrahim-Umar directed the police to return the case file to the Kano State Director of Public Prosecution for legal advice, adjourning the matter until Sept.8, for mention.
