In what security analysts describe as a decisive blow to terrorism in the North East, Nigerian soldiers under Operation Hadin Kai (OPHK) have killed dozens of Boko Haram and Islamic State of West Africa Province (ISWAP) militants in fresh military offensives.
Coordinated Strikes Deliver Heavy Losses
The operation, spanning August 22–23, witnessed troops repelling a heavily armed nighttime assault on the 21 Special Armored Brigade Forward Operating Base at Kumshe. The engagement, supported by precision bombardments from the Nigerian Air Force, forced the insurgents to retreat after suffering heavy losses.
More than 20 insurgents were confirmed dead, with their remains discovered in shallow graves nearby. Weapons, including AK-47 rifles and RPG launchers, were seized.
Offensive Sweep in Banki Junction
On the same day, troops extended the offensive to Dipchari near Banki Junction in Bama Local Government Area, neutralising more terrorists and capturing motorcycles and ammunition.
Partnership with Civilian Joint Task Force
Troops of Sector 2 later teamed up with the Civilian Joint Task Force in Yobe State, storming Ndoksa near Buni Gari. Their mission resulted in additional insurgent casualties and weapon recovery.
Security Implications
Military experts note that the successful series of operations has disrupted terrorist networks, weakened their logistics, and boosted morale among troops and civilians alike.
