Nigerian activist and social critic Aisha Yesufu has sparked widespread controversy after reportedly describing Nigerians living abroad as “the most stupid set of Nigerians.”
The remark, which has gone viral on X (formerly Twitter), was shared in a post by High Chief Lawrence Igbins Okoro (@HighChiefOkoro) on Sunday evening.
In the post, Okoro wrote:
“The most stupid set of Nigerians are Nigerians in diaspora.” – Aisha Yesufu
He accompanied the statement with a video clip and the caption:
“Crowd Funding – Powered by Obidients In Diaspora.
🤣🤣🤣🤣”
The post directly quotes a fundraising appeal by Dr. Yunusa Tanko, Interim National Coordinator of the Obidient Movement Worldwide. In the quoted message, Tanko urged supporters to contribute, saying:
“Kindly join us. We are in a democratic war. We need everyone’s help. This is an election we must win… Arise and shine Nigeria for A New Nigeria is POssible.”
Okoro’s post appears to mock the continued financial support coming from Nigerians in the diaspora for the Obidient cause ahead of the 2027 general elections.
The original post by @HighChiefOkoro has already recorded over 20,000 views within hours of being published, generating heated reactions across the platform.
Some users echoed the sentiment. One commenter wrote:
“Are they not? Of course they are stupid 💯%. If they are not, how can one nonentity in Nigeria spend their hard-earned money this way in 2023 and they are still willing to do another donation for 2027 unrealistic project.”
Another asked a diaspora Nigerian directly:
“Please explain as a diasporan… do you concur?”
A third user added:
“After mismanage 2023 donation una mumu no too much?”
As of Monday morning, neither Aisha Yesufu nor the Obidient movement has issued an official response to the circulating clip or the viral post. The development has once again thrown the role and contributions of Nigerians in the diaspora into the centre of national political discourse.
