Senator Kashim Shettima, the running mate of Senator Bola Ahmed Tinubu of the All Progressives Congress (APC), has been extolled for what was described as his “intelligent” and “smart” contributions at the 62nd NBA Conference in Lagos on Monday.
Senator Shettima represented his principal at the event and highlighted some of the party’s vision on economic management, particularly in light of the global downturn occasioned by the pandemic disruptions and the conflict in Europe.
Aisha Oyetunji, a young lawyer at the event, praised the former Governor of Borno State, describing his contributions as insightful and confidence inspiring.
Querying the undue focus on the candidate’s pair of shoes, she dismissed such concerns as “silly” and a resort to irrelevances after critics found no real grounds to fault his assertion.
She said, “I was at the NBA Conference today and saw and listened to all the men speak. Shettima looked very bright and smart in his suit. In fact, until you mischievous people showed us your silly pictures, no one physically present noticed anything wrong with his dressing.”
“He not only looked smart, he also spoke quite intelligently. So intelligent you people cannot fault his assertions, but result to irrelevancies.”
“Bad mouthing honey does not make it less sweet. You people can go on winning in the department of cruise and trolls while Shettima and his principal forge towards winning the presidency.”
In a similar vein, a veteran journalist, Sam Omatseye expressed his disappointment that some Nigerians chose to focus on an irrelevant issue like a candidate’s styling, neglecting important and far more consequential policy issues and proposals.
He tweeted, “While Shettima addressed a suite of ideas, they are boiling over suits and shoes. What a people!”
