Speaking at an event organized by Stop TB Partnership Nigeria as part of the High-Level Mission on Domestic Resource Mobilization to end TB in Nigeria, the governor has called on all Nigerians to join hands to eradicate tuberculosis from the country.
He charged all stakeholders to champion the course to bring an end to the disease.
He said that it is no news that Nigeria is among the sixth countries in the world and the second in Africa with the highest rate of TB, as such, all hands must be on deck to change the narrative.
““All of us are in denial, tuberculosis was something that was far off but the reality was that it was near.
“As a journalist, you can write about it. Another clarion call for all of us.
“Let us do something with a difference, let us show that we are reducing the burden,” he said.
Sanwo-Olu, however, reiterated his administration’s commitment to eradicating the disease but noted that drug resistance from patients is a bane they are currently grappling with.
He said his administration will be converting its COVID-19 facilities into tuberculosis facilities while plans to build a world-class disease research institute is underway.
