Delta State Governor, Ifeanyi Okowa who also doubles as the running mate of the Peoples Democratic Party, PDP, presidential candidate, Atiku Abubakar has called out the Labour Party flagbearer, Peter Obi over his visit to churches.
Okowa, while speaking with reporters in Kano State on Wednesday, said he is against dragging church into partisan politics, saying that politics is not the purpose of the church.
He bemoaned the desperation some presidential candidates have exhibited to the peril of their faith just because they are bent on winning the February 2022 election.
He said, “Now you begin to look at what is going on; the Peter Obi factor is as if he is trying to go through the church and make it look as if he is driving the Christians into politics. I do not believe that the church should actively go into politics because that is not their calling.
“But people are just hanging to anything they can reach out to even to the detriment of their fate. I don’t believe that’s the right part to go,” he said.
Peter Obi had been seen on several occasions attending different churches’ programmes including the Holy Ghost Service of the 70th convention of the Redeemed Christian Church of God and the Glory Dome, Abuja among a host of others that attracted mixed reactions from people on social media.
