The Department of State Security Services has brought 12 new allegations against the controversial Governor of the Central Bank of Nigeria, Godwin Emefiele.
The secret intelligence agency, which previously accused the CBN chief of funding terrorism over ties with insurgent groups in the country, has submitted new evidence of other indicting charges to the president, prompting insinuations of possible sack and arrest.
The evidence was contained in a security report the DSS Director General, Yusuf Bichi, handed over to President Buhari at the Aso Rock Presidential Villa earlier on Thursday.
Emefiele had earlier visited the Presidential Villa on Thursday as part of the delegation of the Arab Bank for Economic Development led by its Director General, Dr Sidi Ould Tah. His second meeting on Thursday with President Buhari was held behind closed doors.
He was confronted with the fresh allegations levelled against him by the DSS, and Villa sources are speculating that the CBN Governor has grown increasingly scared over a possible arrest, particularly after ending his term in charge of the country’s apex bank.
