President Bola Tinubu has approved the indefinite suspension of Abdulrasheed Bawa, the Chairman of the anti-corruption agency EFCC, official statement says.
His suspension is to allow for proper and objective investigations into the “weighty allegations” of abuse and other infractions levelled against him by various individuals and bodies in the past months.
He will now hand over the affairs of his office to the Director of Operations in the Commission who has been tasked with interim management pending the outcome of the investigations and a decision on Bawa’s future.
His suspension has been identified as part of Tinubu’s ‘de-odorization’ of important national agencies and institutions affected by the unfavourable reputation of their heads who have been troubled by indicting reports alleging abuse of privileges.
He follows CBN Governor Godwin Emefiele who was, last week, suspended and arrested to account for questionable decisions made in his capacity as the country’s Chief Banker.
