Super Falcons captain, Onome Ebi has refuted claims that the team would skip World Cup games in response to unsettled bonuses.
The skipper made this known during an interview with NFF.com on Saturday.
She revealed a lack of knowledge of any such intention by the team.
Ebi reassured that no conversations regarding a boycott were held within the team, emphasizing their commitment to the training ahead of the World Cup.
“I have no idea where that (boycott) is coming from. We (the players) never had any such conversations as regards that; we are good with training and ready for the World Cup,” the Falcons captain said.
On the team’s spirit and readiness, Ebi described the training sessions as intense and inspiring.
“The players are in good shape, motivated, and ready to play. The training sessions reflect the positive mood in the camp, which is what we expected.”
This trails the recent revelation by Super Falcons’ head coach, Randy Waldrum, who acknowledged that the Nigerian Football Federation (NFF) owed him seven months’ salary, in addition to players’ overdue per diems and bonuses from two years ago.
The Women’s World Cup, scheduled to take place in New Zealand and Australia from July 20, would see the Super Falcons participate in a 15-day preliminary training session.
Their first match against Canada is slated for July 21, followed by a game against Australia on July 27, and concluding with a final group match against Ireland on July 31.
