The All Progressives Congress, APC at an emergency meeting held by the National Working Committee at the party headquarters in Abuja on Monday demonstrated its intolerance for misrule and misconduct when the now former National Chairman, Senator Abdullahi Adamu, and former National Secretary, Senator Iyiola Omisore stepped down from their positions.
Their resignation was not unconnected to the unconstitutional manner the two chieftains managed the audit of the party’s account, lack of transparency, violation of the party constitution and running a one-man show to the exclusion of the National Working Committee, all contributing massively to them losing their place in the leadership of the party.
Chances of an imminent implosion within the party had begun to gather momentum menacingly if the misappropriation, maladministration and highhandedness of the duo were not nipped in the bud.
Their consistent flagrant abuse of the party’s constitution and several acts of mutiny to the party agendas were increasingly becoming unacceptable and uncomfortable with members of the party despite the patience exercised with the hope that they will turn a new leaf.
That wouldn’t happen as eventually their anti-party activities came to a head when they contracted the party’s audit account to an external auditor without the consent of the NWC or NEC.
“The audit sent to INEC was not approved by the NWC. It is constitutional that before such is done, the NEC has to first review it. Then the audit department of the NWC will also review. It is after these two units review will it be sent to NEC for approval. Adamu never did any of this, the audit was just sent to INEC, isolating the party, and running a one-man show. That’s tyrannical,” a party chieftain told PODIUM REPORTERS.
In their stead, Senator Abubakar Kyari took over the position of Adamu in acting capacity while Omisore was officially replaced with the Deputy National Secretary of the party, Festus Fuanter.
This comes as President Bola Tinubu and the APC governors have alread begun the process of getting substantive and competent replacements for the duo.
