Qatar has agreed to host the business and investment forum proposed by the Nigerian government on the margins of President Bola Tinubu’s state visit to Qatar scheduled between 2nd March – 3rd March, 2024.
In a letter dated February 23, 2024 addressed to the Protocol Department of Nigeria’s Ministry of Foreign Affairs, the Qatari Embassy in Abuja said that the Qatar Chamber of Commerce will host a proposed Business and Investment Forum on the margins of President Bola Tinubu’s visit to Qatar on 3rd March, 2024.
On February 24, 2024 the Internet was awash with a purported rejection of President Tinubu’s state visit to Qatar following a leaked memo dated February 22nd, 2024 which indicated that the Qatari Ministry of Foreign Affairs expressing doubts over the possibility of holding the proposed investment forum on the earlier proposed date, citing the unavailability of Mohammed Bin Hamad Al-Thani, the country’s minister of commerce and industry and other reasons.
This was then misconstrued by many to mean rejection of President Tinubu’s state visit to Qatar.
However, with this letter, it appears the Qatar embassy in Nigeria reached an agreement a day later hence the February 23 letter to the protocol department of the Ministry of Foreign Affairs.
