The Defense Headquarters (DHQ) announced its intention to display the banner used to identify over 90 wanted terrorists in strategic locations. Edward Buba, Director of Defence Media Operations, revealed this in an interview with The Punch on Saturday, March 23, as part of efforts to bolster Nigeria’s security.
Buba stated that the names and details of the wanted individuals would be accessible in locations such as embassies and airports. Among those declared wanted are Simon Ekpa, a factional leader of the proscribed Indigenous People of Biafra (IPOB), and notorious bandit leader Bello Turji, who has wreaked havoc in Zamfara and other northwest regions. Ekpa, based in Finland, is described as a menace to Nigeria by Chief of Defence Staff, General Christopher Musa, and is the factional leader of the Indigenous People of Biafra.
The DHQ aims to dismantle terrorist networks by targeting financiers and key operatives, emphasizing international collaboration and involvement of local communities. Cooperation with agencies like the Economic and Financial Crimes Commission (EFCC) is crucial in disrupting financial channels sustaining terrorism.
Dissemination of the wanted list to embassies and airports serves as a deterrent, signaling Nigeria’s proactive stance in ensuring peace and stability. Citizens are urged to remain vigilant and assist security forces in this collective effort to enhance national safety and security.
