In a concerted effort to combat terrorism in the Northwest region, Nigerian Army troops achieved significant victories in separate operations conducted in Zamfara and Katsina States on Monday, April 1, 2024.
Responding to a distress call, troops swiftly moved to address a road blockade set up by terrorists along the Anka-Bagega road in Zamfara State. This blockade, aimed at impeding the free movement of civilians and goods while facilitating kidnappings, was effectively dismantled by the vigilant troops. Engaging the terrorists in combat, the troops forced them to abandon their nefarious plans and retreat. In the aftermath, the troops recovered a cache of weapons including an AK-47 rifle, 2 AK 47 magazines, 5 rounds of 7.62mm Special ammunition, and a motorbike. Pursuit operations are underway to deny the terrorists freedom of action in the area.
In a separate operation in Katsina State, troops targeted insurgents’ camps in the Yar’Malamai and Hamfudin general areas within Faskari Local Government Area. The operation resulted in the elimination of one terrorist during a shootout. Additionally, the troops recovered a locally fabricated gun, 2 motorcycles, 6 mobile phones, and other miscellaneous items from the insurgents’ hideouts.
These successful operations underscore the Nigerian Army’s commitment to maintaining peace and security in the region. The swift and decisive actions of the troops have dealt a significant blow to terrorist activities, safeguarding the lives and property of citizens. The Nigerian Army remains resolute in its determination to rid the Northwest region of all forms of criminality and terrorism, ensuring a safer environment for all.
