A judge of the Federal High Court in Lagos, Justice Abimbola Awogboro has handed down a verdict, sentencing controversial cross-dresser, Mr. Idris Okuneye, famously known as Bobrisky, to six months in prison with no option of fine.
The judgment is coming days after the anti-corruption agency arraigned Bobrisky before Justice Abimbola on April 5. Bobrisky upon his arraignment had pleaded guilty to all the four count charges slammed against him by the EFCC bordering on Naira abuse. The judge consequently found him guilty of abuse of the Naira and slated Tuesday, April 9th for sentencing.
Unfortunately, the eid fitr holiday on Tuesday stalled the delivery of judgment by the Lagos Federal High Court. The case was then adjourned to Friday, April 12. However, before he was handed a 6-month jail term on Friday, a mild drama ensued. Justice Abimbola Awogboro asked the convict of his sex, and he quickly replied, “I am a man, My Lord.”
The judge subsequently sent him to jail and ruled that the jail term commenced from March 24, 2024, the day of his arrest and detention.
According to the charge sheet, the convict, Mr. Bobrisky was said to have committed the offence on March 24, at Circle Mall, Jakande in the Lekki area of Lagos where the EFCC said he tampered with the cumulative sum of N400,000 while dancing during a social event, by spraying the said sum.
He was equally said to have sprayed various tranches of money between 2022 and 2023 such as N20,000 and N50,000 at various events.
