In a recent incident, the Suleja Medium Security Custodial Centre faced a significant challenge due to a rainstorm that caused the collapse of its perimeter fence. The facility witnessed the escape of over a hundred inmates during this unfortunate event.
Accompanied by the Controller General of the Nigeria Correctional Service (NCoS), Haliru Nababa, the Honourable Minister of Interior, Dr. Olubunmi Tunji Ojo, visited the affected custodial center to assess the situation. Our immediate priority was to address the security breach and ensure the safety of both the public and the remaining escapees.
As of now, approximately 10 escapees have been recaptured, thanks to the collaborative efforts of various sister agencies. However, our work is far from over. We remain committed to locating and apprehending the remaining escapees swiftly.
The Nigerian government has taken decisive action to prevent such incidents from recurring across correctional facilities in the country. A sustainable plan is being implemented to reinforce security measures, repair the damaged fence, and enhance overall safety within these facilities.
Our focus remains on safeguarding the community, maintaining order, and ensuring justice prevails. We urge citizens to remain vigilant and report any information related to the escaped inmates promptly.
