The senator representing Borno South in Senate, Ali Ndume has been removed as the Chief Whip of the Senate by the upper chamber.
His removal followed a letter by the All Progressives Congress (APC) on Wednesday asking the controversial Senator to resign from the party and vacate his position as the Chief Whip of the Senate.
The letter from the APC was sent to the Senate President, Godswill Akpabio, which he read on the floor of the Senate on Wednesday.
In the letter signed by the National Chairman of the APC, Abdullahi Ganduje and the National Secretary, Ajibola Basiru, nominated Senator Tahir Monguno, representing Borno North in the Senate to take Ndume’s place as Chief Whip.
The ruling party accused Sen. Ali Ndume of making hurtful comments against the administration of President Bola Tinubu.
After the removal of Ali Ndume as Chief Whip, Senate President Godswill Akpabio announced Ndume as the new chairman of the senate committee on tourism. Sen. Adeniyi Adegbonmire, representing Ondo central, was named new Chairman of Senate Committee on Judiciary and Legal Matters to replace the Sen. Tahir Monguno who occupied the position until his elevation as the Chief Whip of the Senate.
Ali Ndume courted his latest controversy when in an interview with BBC Hausa on July 10, he alleged that some ministers and lawmakers can no longer reach Tinubu to relay the prevailing economic hardship and hunger in the land. He said that the president is “caged”. The Senator doubled down on his claim two days later during an interview with Arise TV.
In that Arise TV interview, Ndume said that former President Muhammadu Buhari was a more accessible leader than President Bola Tinubu. He accused aides of the president of shielding and fencing in President from lawmakers and ministers.
