…House of Reps petition Canadian government as Amaka Patience Sunnberger deletes tiktok account
A Nigerian lady based in Canada few days ago on tiktok live threatened to poison and kill Yorubas and Benin people she comes in contact with in Canada.
The lady who has now been identified by the Nigerians in Diaspora Commission as Amaka Patience Sunnberger in a roughly 2-minute tirade spewed invectives against the two Nigerian ethnic groups. The source of her anger is unclear in the viral video.
Amaka Patience in the video said, “record me very well; it’s time to start poisoning the Yoruba and the Benin. Put poison for all una food for work. Put poison for una water, make una dey kpai (die) one by one. Una no go kpai one day o, una go sick sick. I go put otapiapia (rat poison) for inside una water, inside una food. Una no go see better!”
“This kind hate wey I get for una so, e go last forever, forever. For all una food, otapiapia….I go dey put am for all una food. If I go work tomorrow, I go put am for Yoruba people food”, the lady added.
She challenged people to go and report her to the government (Canadian authorities) and revealed she’s in Ontario Canada.
“Go tell government. Oya I dey Canada, I dey Ontario. Oya, hurry up. Hurry fast fast. I go put otapiapia, I go put ogbomosho, everything for inside una food. Una go dey hear small small, Yoruba don die o, Benin don kpeme o. Una go dey hear am, na me talk am.
“I want make Ndi Igbo get that heart of wickedness. Una too dey quiet. Una too dey cool. Enough is enough. If you have a means of kpaing (killing) them, kpai them. Any means of kpaing them, kpai them comot for road because dey too mumu. They are of no use to the society, lots of prostitutes and everything”, Amaka Sunnberger added.
As she was voicing her heart out, other participants in the tiktok virtual meeting were heard prodding her and echoing her threats to kill Yorubas and Benin with one heard describing Benin as prostitute kingdom.
Meanwhile, the House of Representatives has officially written a petition to the Canadian government through the Canadian High Commission in Nigeria against the said Amaka Patience Sunnberger over her threats. In the letter signed by Hon. Biodun Omoleye (Chairman of the Nigerian-Canadian Parliamentary Friendship Group) and Hon. Tochukwu Chinedu Okere who chairs the House Committee on Diaspora matters, the House of Reps accused Amaka Patience Sunnberger of incitement to genocide and hate speech against the Yoruba and Edo ethnic groups.
The House of Representatives in the letter stated that Amaka’s recorded statements constitute a direct threat to the lives and safety of millions of Nigerians.
“Her incitement to violence and call for genocide through poisoning are not only deeply troubling but also represent a clear violation of multiple international, Canadian and Ontario laws. Such rhetoric is dangerous and has the potential to incite real-world violence, both in Nigeria and within the Nigerian diaspora”, the letter stated.
The House of Reps then called for the Canadian government to take immediate action on the matter in light of the seriousness of these violations.
As the controversy raged on, the lady at the center of the storm, Amaka Patience Sunnberger deleted her tiktok account. However, prominent Igbo leaders including Mr. Peter Obi, who usually weigh in on many less weighty matters, has kept mute. The lady who made these dangerous comments is a die-hard supporter of Mr. Peter Obi, prompting calls from many quarters for the Labour Party presidential candidate in the 2023 presidential election to issue a statement denouncing such dangerous rhetoric.
Other leaders such as former Education Minister, Mrs. Oby Ezekwesili who in the past also spoke against threats made by a faceless Yoruba page, Lagospedia against Igbos in Lagos, are also mute in the face of this disturbing escalation to the already fragile inter-tribal tension existing in Nigeria especially among the Yorubas and Igbos both of Southern Nigeria.
