The Nigerian Meteorological Agency (NiMet) has released a comprehensive three-day weather forecast, signaling a mix of sunshine, cloudiness, and rainfall across various regions from Monday to Wednesday. The forecast, issued on Sunday, details expected weather conditions state by state, emphasizing the need for caution amid potential thunderstorms.
Northern Nigeria will experience mostly sunny mornings with intermittent clouds. However, isolated thunderstorms and moderate rains are forecast in the afternoon and evening in Taraba, Bauchi, Gombe, Kano, Katsina, Sokoto, Adamawa, Kebbi, and Kaduna States.
Central states such as Plateau, Benue, the Federal Capital Territory (FCT), Kwara, Nasarawa, and Niger will similarly see sunny mornings with some cloud cover, followed by isolated thunderstorms and moderate rainfall later in the day.
In the southern region, cloudy skies will dominate the mornings, with morning rains expected over Akwa Ibom. Thunderstorms accompanied by light to moderate rain will follow in Imo, Ebonyi, Enugu, Anambra, Abia, Edo, Ondo, Ogun, Oyo, Delta, Ekiti, Lagos, Rivers, Bayelsa, Cross River, and Akwa Ibom States.
On Tuesday, morning thunderstorms with light rain are predicted over parts of Sokoto, Zamfara, Kebbi, Katsina, Kano, and Jigawa. Other northern areas will enjoy sunny weather with cloud patches. Moderate rains will develop later in Adamawa, Taraba, Borno, Kebbi, Zamfara, Kano, Kaduna, and Bauchi.
Central Nigeria will experience morning thunderstorms with light rain in FCT, Benue, Niger, Kwara, Plateau, and Kogi, with moderate rains continuing into the afternoon and evening. Southern states will see cloudy mornings followed by thunderstorms and moderate to heavy rains, especially in Cross River, Akwa Ibom, Lagos, Ogun, Ondo, and Edo.
Wednesday’s forecast indicates morning thunderstorms with light rain in Kebbi, Zamfara, and Sokoto, while other northern states will have sunny weather with cloud cover. Moderate rains are expected later in Bauchi, Gombe, Adamawa, Taraba, Sokoto, Kebbi, Zamfara, Kano, and Kaduna.
Central Nigeria will enjoy sunny intervals in the morning, with thunderstorms and moderate to heavy rain expected later. The southern region will be cloudy in the morning and experience thunderstorms with heavy rain in the afternoon and evening.
NiMet cautioned the public to prepare for strong winds that may precede thunderstorms. The agency recommended securing loose objects, avoiding driving during heavy rains, unplugging electrical devices during storms, and staying away from tall trees due to the risk of falling branches.
“Airline operators should obtain airport-specific weather reports from NiMet for flight safety. The public is encouraged to stay updated through NiMet’s official website: www.nimet.gov.ng,” the agency advised.
