Senator Ali Ndume of Borno South has issued a stark warning to President Bola Tinubu, stating that failure to resolve Nigeria’s challenges may lead to his departure from the All Progressives Congress. Speaking on Arise News, Ndume, who was the Director-General of Rotimi Amaechi’s presidential campaign, expressed frustration with the current state of governance.
He cautioned that the APC could face collapse if it continues to absorb too many political interests without proper management. “If Tinubu continues this way, it doesn’t matter if he loads more people or governors, you are just endangering the APC,” Ndume said.
Ndume also addressed the political rift between Tinubu and former Kaduna State Governor Nasir El-Rufai. He recounted how El-Rufai initially supported Amaechi but switched allegiance to Tinubu before the APC primaries. “El-Rufai was supposed to be on our side but somehow, he moved over. I think these are part of the things that are annoying or frustrating him,” Ndume said.
He further recalled the Senate’s near endorsement of El-Rufai during his ministerial screening, which was ultimately unsuccessful. “Sometimes, I’ll say, ‘okay o, you did that to us, it’s payback to yourself,’” Ndume remarked.
Additionally, Ndume accused some of Tinubu’s aides of deceiving the president and harming his reputation, describing the government as hijacked by corrupt elements. These comments come amid growing political tensions within the APC.
