Residents in the area have expressed suspicion that her death may have been caused by suspected herdsmen, though this has not been officially established. Following the discovery, Mrs. Atere’s remains were taken to a hospital located in Iwaro Oka Community for medical examination.

In response to the tragedy, the Akoko Youth Forum, a local youth organization, condemned the killing and urged law enforcement agencies to ensure justice is served. The group, led by National President Ibukunoluwa Akeju, accused suspected Fulani assailants of carrying out the attack.
“The Akoko Youth Forum strongly condemns the gruesome and unfortunate killing of Mrs. Rabiat Atere, a peaceful farmer and indigene of Ajo Quarter in Uba Oka Community, who was reportedly attacked and murdered while working on her farm,” the statement read. “This heinous act, allegedly carried out by suspected Fulani assailants, is a direct attack on the peace and safety of our people, a threat we can no longer tolerate.”
