The African Democratic Congress (ADC) has criticized President Bola Tinubu for his unexplained five-day absence following the 2025 BRICS Summit in Brazil, demanding clarity from the presidency.
Tinubu’s international trip began on June 28 with a state visit to Saint Lucia, coinciding with the nation’s 45th Independence Anniversary, aimed at boosting South-South cooperation. He then attended the BRICS Summit in Rio de Janeiro from July 6 to 7. Despite the summit’s conclusion, Tinubu only returned to Nigeria on July 13.
ADC’s National Publicity Secretary, Bola Abdullahi, stated, “All other world leaders returned home promptly after the summit, briefed their citizens, and resumed work. Our President, however, reappeared in Abuja five days later without a word.”
The party stressed the importance of accountability, especially given Nigeria’s ongoing challenges with insecurity and economic instability, and criticized the administration’s recurring lack of communication during presidential foreign trips.
