Peter Obi, influential former governor of Anambra State and Labour Party presidential hopeful, has publicly congratulated the Nigerian women’s basketball squad known as D’Tigress for their historic feat of winning the 2025 FIBA Women’s AfroBasket championship for the fifth time running.
In an exuberant message titled “MISSION V ACCOMPLISHED,” Obi celebrated the team’s relentless energy and resilience, referring to them as “fearless, fast, and unstoppable” athletes who have continuously raised the bar in African basketball.
“Congratulations D’TIGRESS, you did it. You played like true queens of the court,” he wrote. “Again, you’ve made Nigeria proud, you’ve made Africa proud, and you’ve made history by being the AfroBasket champions five times in a row.”
Obi thanked them for their unwavering commitment and the heart they invested in every match, emphasizing the world recognition their excellence demands. He also paid tribute to the tactical brilliance of Coach Rena Wakama.
On Sunday, at the Palais des Sports de Treichville in Côte d’Ivoire’s Abidjan, D’Tigress dethroned Mali to claim the championship, thereby solidifying their decade-long undefeated streak in the tournament and cementing Nigeria’s supremacy on the continent.
