WAEC has denied any association with a document that circulated online, allegedly implicating 151 secondary schools in examination malpractice linked to the 2025 May/June WASSCE.
The viral letter, dated August 4, 2025, was purportedly signed by Dr Florence Ajayi, labeled as the Director of Examination Malpractice and Irregularities for WAEC Nigeria. The document instructed school heads to appear before an investigative panel with scripts and records of affected candidates.
But on Tuesday, WAEC’s official social media account dismissed the letter as fraudulent. It emphasized that such information never came from any authorized communication platform and advised the public to ignore its contents.
The letter included prominent names like Charles Dale Memorial International School, Divine Mercy Secondary School, and St. Theresa’s Catholic College. However, WAEC warned against accepting any instructions outside its accredited outlets, reiterating, “WAEC will never ask any centre to bring scripts of candidates to the office.”
On Monday, while announcing the release of the results, Dr Amos Dangut, Head of WAEC Nigeria, had confirmed that 192,089 candidates’ results were withheld on suspicion of malpractice.
He also pointed out a significant decline in the performance rate, citing that only 38.32 per cent secured five credits including Mathematics and English, a sharp contrast to the 72.12 per cent recorded the previous year. He attributed the plunge to tougher anti-malpractice protocols.
