The Minister of Information and National Orientation, Alhaji Mohammed Idris, says Nigeria now has the capacity to treat cancer locally, thanks to the health sector reforms under President Bola Tinubu’s Renewed Hope Agenda.
Idris made the statement on Thursday during an official visit to Enugu, where he met Governor Peter Mbah. He explained that the Federal Government had brought its full information structure to the state to document ongoing developments under the current administration.
“President Tinubu has done so well that you could mistake this for his second term,” Idris said, while also praising Governor Mbah for continuing impactful projects from his predecessor.
The minister revealed that six advanced oncology centres have been set up, one in each geopolitical zone, including Enugu. These centres are equipped with high-end machines found in global hospitals and operated by Nigerian medical professionals.
He stressed that the era when patients had no choice but to seek cancer treatment abroad was over. “If anyone is going outside for treatment now, it’s purely by choice,” Idris noted.
Idris also commended the President for fostering cooperation among security agencies, which he said has led to a noticeable improvement in national security. However, he added that the administration remains focused on addressing lingering issues.
