Two teenage girls, aged 18 and 16, have been rescued from an alleged human trafficker in Enugu State following swift action by the police.
The command’s Public Relations Officer, SP Daniel Ndukwe, disclosed in a statement on Thursday that 30-year-old Raymond Wonna was apprehended after the victims were intercepted along the Enugu–Onitsha Expressway on July 30, 2025.
“They were intercepted at about 2 pm by operatives of the command’s crack tactical squad during a routine patrol,” Ndukwe said.
Investigations showed the suspect had allegedly enticed the girls from their hometown in Ogoja, Cross River State, to work in a Ghana-based restaurant run by his “baby mama.” Police also reported that “further findings indicate that the suspect also attempted to rape the victims while lodging them in a hotel, where they were kept pending departure.”
The girls have been safely reunited with their families. Authorities are pursuing leads to track other members of the trafficking ring.
Commissioner of Police, Mamman Bitrus Giwa, lauded the officers for their timely intervention and warned traffickers that the state remains unsafe for their activities. “CP Giwa reiterates the Command’s unwavering commitment to combating human trafficking and other violent crimes,” he said, urging the public to remain watchful.
