The Federal Government has reiterated that the South-East is a major beneficiary of President Bola Ahmed Tinubu’s reform-driven agenda, insisting that the region is neither ignored nor excluded from national development.
Minister of Information and National Orientation, Alhaji Mohammed Idris, conveyed this position on Thursday during a Citizens’ Engagement session in Enugu, organised as part of a three-day official tour of Enugu and Ebonyi states.
The minister emphasised that the Tinubu administration is committed to reversing any perception of inequality. “Nigeria will never go back to that era where the South-East or a certain part of the country is being treated marginally,” he assured.
Highlighting Tinubu’s policies, Idris noted that development commissions have been created for previously uncovered areas, enabling every region to benefit equally from national resources. He also pointed to a deliberate balance in federal appointments and project allocation.
Idris expressed confidence that by the end of the President’s first term, the reforms would be evident in improved livelihoods, economic stability, and visible infrastructure. He added that transparency and accountability remain the administration’s guiding principles.
In addition, he revealed that several social welfare and humanitarian programmes are being implemented to offset the economic impact of fuel subsidy removal and other bold policy decisions.
Stakeholders present at the meeting engaged with the minister on issues ranging from infrastructure to economic empowerment, as the government continues to push for nationwide inclusivity.
