Former Kaduna State Governor, Nasir Ahmad El-Rufai, has strongly distanced himself from a viral statement credited to him by ADC Vanguard, alleging that President Bola Tinubu’s administration is the “most corrupt and dishonest government in Nigeria.”
El-Rufai, in a post shared on his verified X (formerly Twitter) account on Thursday, August 21, 2025, described the publication as false and misleading. He cautioned ADC Vanguard against fabricating and attributing such statements to him, stressing that he has his own platforms to share his opinions whenever necessary.
“Dear ADC Vanguard. Please stop fabricating statements and attributing them to me. I have my social media handles where I can make my views and opinions published. I am going to disown the statements you created and attributed not because I necessarily disagree with the message, but because I never made them. That is not the honest way to represent our party or gain traction. Please stop it forthwith,” El-Rufai wrote.
The viral post by ADC Vanguard, which has since been disowned by El-Rufai, accused President Tinubu’s administration of perfecting “the art of looting with arrogance and lying with confidence,” while further alleging that every sector of governance, including security and the economy, had been “tainted by fraud, kickbacks, and favoritism.”
Reacting swiftly, El-Rufai emphasized that while political debates remain an integral part of democratic culture, it is unacceptable to misrepresent his voice or drag his name into unfounded political propaganda. He maintained that such actions could damage credibility and foster unnecessary discord.
The post has since drawn wide attention online, with over 40,000 views within hours of his rebuttal. A user, Omooba Ayoku, reacting to El-Rufai’s disclaimer, wrote in response: “So soon!!!!!!” — a comment many interpret as pointing to the speed at which political misrepresentation spreads on social media.
El-Rufai’s response underscores the growing concerns about fake news, misinformation, and false attributions within Nigeria’s political space.
