President Bola Ahmed Tinubu has reassured Nigerians that his government will act decisively following Tuesday’s Abuja–Kaduna train derailment, vowing that such accidents must not become recurrent.
President’s Sympathy Message
In his reaction via X, Tinubu conveyed sympathy to those affected. He wrote:
“I am deeply saddened by this incident. My heartfelt prayers are with the injured, their families, and all passengers who went through this distressing experience.”
The president emphasized that he has been in constant communication with officials despite being in Brazil for high-level talks.
NRC Already Working
Tinubu disclosed that the Nigerian Railway Corporation (NRC) has begun investigating the cause of the accident and is making efforts to restore operations.
“I am staying updated on the latest developments and await a full briefing to ensure swift action and support for all affected,” he said.
He assured citizens that preventive measures would be instituted immediately.
Broader Transport Agenda
The derailment comes at a time when the Tinubu administration is pushing for modernization of Nigeria’s transport system. Supporters believe this renewed focus shows the president’s determination to strengthen critical infrastructure.
