The lawmaker representing Aguata Federal Constituency in Anambra State, Hon. Okafor Dominic Ifeanyi, has come under heavy criticism after pictures and videos surfaced online showing him distributing branded wheelbarrows to his constituents as part of an empowerment programme.
The initiative, which was tagged an “agric empowerment project,” has sparked outrage across social media, with many Nigerians questioning the relevance and impact of such interventions in addressing the pressing socio-economic challenges faced by citizens. Wheelbarrows branded with the inscription “HON. ENGR. DOM. OKAFOR AGRIC EMPOWERMENT FCCO/CAP/G/2025/467” were reportedly handed out to selected beneficiaries during the programme.
Reacting to the development, popular social media commentator, Emma Ik Umeh, expressed disappointment over the lawmaker’s performance. He accused Hon. Okafor of neglecting his constituency and failing to meet expectations compared to other federal lawmakers.
“Hon Okafor Dominic Ifeanyi is the Federal House of Representatives member representing Aguata Federal Constituency, Anambra State. He’s one of the most useless House of reps members. Look at what Hon. @akinalabi and @B_ELRUFAI are doing for their constituency. My own House of reps doesn’t care,” Umeh wrote on X.
He further declared that efforts were already underway to initiate a recall process against the legislator.
Another user, Theo Abu, also weighed in, drawing attention to the perceived inadequacy of the empowerment scheme. “The member representing Aguata Constituency in the Anambra State House of Assembly has empowered constituents with branded wheelbarrows. Lest we forget, this is the man representing Emmanuel IK Umeh’s Constituency in Anambra state,” he posted.
Pictures from the event show rows of newly branded wheelbarrows alongside the lawmaker addressing constituents during the distribution exercise.
While some argue that such interventions may provide minor relief for certain individuals engaged in small-scale farming or manual labour, many critics believe that the gesture falls short of genuine constituency development. They insist that residents of Aguata deserve more sustainable initiatives that would create jobs, improve infrastructure, and drive economic growth in the community.
As backlash continues to mount, it remains uncertain how Hon. Okafor Dominic Ifeanyi and his team will respond to the growing criticism and the recall threats being raised by aggrieved constituents.
