The African Democratic Congress (ADC) has plunged deeper into internal crisis following the suspension of its National Vice Chairman for the South-South, Dr. Usani Usani, over alleged anti-party behavior and insubordination.
The decision, which takes effect immediately, was reached after a meeting of the Cross River State Working Committee (SWC) of the ADC held on Wednesday, October 15, 2025.
In a statement issued on Monday in Abuja, the party’s State Publicity Secretary, James Otudor, said the committee reviewed multiple petitions accusing Usani of disobedience to party authorities and actions considered damaging to the ADC’s image and progress.
“The committee found Dr. Usani’s conduct to be inconsistent with the constitution and core values of the party,” Otudor said. “His suspension will remain in force until a full investigation is completed by the relevant party bodies.”
The statement also criticized the appointment of Ms. Jackie Wayas as Deputy National Publicity Secretary, saying the state chapter was not consulted before her selection.
Otudor alleged that Wayas had shown “little engagement” with the Cross River chapter and questioned her loyalty to the unity of the ADC in the South-South zone.
“Consequently, the SWC urges the national leadership to review her appointment and replace her with a more competent and credible representative from Cross River State,” he stated.
The committee further warned some members of the Coalition Movement who have yet to complete their ADC membership registration despite publicly identifying with the party. It insisted that the ADC would not allow dual membership or tolerate politicians using its platform for personal or conflicting interests.
“All coalition leaders and intending members are directed to complete their registration at their respective ward levels within seven days, ending Saturday, October 25, 2025, or risk losing their leadership roles and decision-making rights,” the statement warned.
Reaffirming loyalty to the national leadership, the Cross River ADC pledged to continue promoting transparency and credible leadership across the state and the South-South region.
“We urge all members to remain calm, disciplined, and focused as the party’s internal disciplinary process runs its course,” Otudor added.
