Leader of the Indigenous People of Biafra (IPOB), Nnamdi Kanu, has started his defence in the terrorism case brought against him by the Federal Government of Nigeria at the Federal High Court in Abuja.
Kanu, who had repeatedly declined to present his defence in previous sittings, began the process on Friday following a directive from Justice James Omotosho. The judge ordered that the court’s registry be temporarily moved into the courtroom to allow Kanu to complete the necessary filings without further delay.
During the session, the judge paused proceedings for one hour to enable Kanu and his legal team to finalise their documents.
The prosecuting counsel representing the Federal Government, Adegboyega Awomolo (SAN), told the court that he was ready to receive the defence papers and respond accordingly.
Until now, Kanu had maintained that he would not proceed with his defence unless the prosecution clearly identified the exact terrorism law he was accused of violating.
As of the time of this report, the filing process was still ongoing.
