In a surprising result from the ongoing Anambra State governorship election, the Labour Party (LP) lost in the very polling unit of its 2023 presidential candidate, Peter Obi.
At Polling Unit 019, Agulu Ward 11, Anaocha Local Government Area, the All Progressives Congress (APC) candidate, Nicholas Ukachukwu, emerged victorious with 73 votes. The Labour Party candidate, George Moghalu, scored 57 votes, while the All Progressives Grand Alliance (APGA) came third with 38 votes.
Peter Obi had cast his vote at the same polling unit earlier in the day and has been actively campaigning across the state, where he had won more than 95 percent of the votes in the 2023 presidential election.
The result marks a setback for the LP in a key area considered a stronghold of Obi’s influence.
