The Peoples Democratic Party has expelled several senior members from its fold during its 2025 National Convention taking place in Ibadan, the capital of Oyo State. Those affected include the Minister of the Federal Capital Territory, Nyesom Wike, Senator Samuel Anyanwu, Kamaldeen Ajibade (SAN), former Ekiti State Governor Ayo Fayose, Austin Nwachukwu and a number of others.
According to the party, the decision came after delegates voted in large numbers to support the move. The leadership said this shows the party is serious about rebuilding unity and order before the 2027 general elections.
A statement shared on the party’s official social media pages noted that the step was taken “to restore unity, discipline and focus ahead of the 2027 general elections.” It also said the decision was accepted “by an overwhelming majority of delegates,” adding that the party wants to put an end to actions that create division within its ranks.
Further information revealed that Chief Olabode George, a former national vice chairman (South), presented the motion that called for the expulsion of the affected members. Samaila Buga, who leads the party in Bauchi State, supported the motion.
Bauchi State Governor Bala Mohammed, who also serves as chairman of the PDP Governors Forum, later called for a voice vote to confirm the action.
More updates are expected soon.
