Former President of the Senate of Nigeria, Dr. Abubakar Bukola Saraki, was in Lagos on Saturday to celebrate the 65th birthday of former Ekiti State Governor Ayodele Fayose, only hours after Fayose was suspended by the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP).
Saraki, who did not attend the PDP national convention held the same day, shared moments from the event on his official X (formerly Twitter) account. In his post, he wrote: “It was a pleasure to join His Excellency, @GovAyoFayose, along with his family, friends, political associates, and other dignitaries in Lagos today to celebrate his 65th birthday.”
The gathering brought together close associates and political allies of the former Ekiti governor, despite the earlier announcement of his suspension by the party’s National Working Committee. Saraki’s presence at the birthday celebration instead of the convention has drawn attention within political circles, especially given the timing and Fayose’s recent disciplinary action.
The development has sparked discussions about internal cracks within the opposition party, as well as the political alliances forming ahead of future electoral activities.
