Nigerian music producer Samklef has publicly criticised supporters of Peter Obi, the 2023 presidential candidate of the Labour Party, accusing them of exhibiting hostile behaviour toward anyone who disagrees with their political views.
In a post shared on his X (formerly Twitter) account, Samklef addressed Obi directly, announcing that he had unfollowed him due to what he described as the growing intolerance among Obi’s online supporters.
“Your followers have become worse than the bandits and the same government they constantly criticize,” he wrote. According to him, the attacks stemmed from his personal opinion that President Bola Ahmed Tinubu, who currently leads Nigeria’s federal government, is “better than Obasanjo” in his view.
Samklef said the reaction from some supporters of the former Anambra State governor had crossed acceptable boundaries, explaining that they “attack people, insult my parents, and try to tear me down simply because I shared my perspective.”
The producer stressed that he has a constitutional right to support any political figure of his choice and should not be subjected to harassment for expressing his views. He added, “I have the fundamental right to choose and support whoever I want. The toxic behavior from your supporters is unacceptable. They’ve become monsters, not advocates for change.”
The incident adds to ongoing debates about political intolerance and social media hostility surrounding Nigeria’s major political figures.
