Nigerians in the United Kingdom Community Limited (NIUK), a UK-registered community organisation representing Nigerians living across the United Kingdom, has issued a public disclaimer distancing itself from Mr Benjamin Kuti, also known as “Oluomo of Derby,” stating that he has no affiliation or authority within the organisation.
In a statement released by its interim leadership, NIUK said it was necessary to clarify to members of the Nigerian community in the UK and the general public that Mr Kuti “has no affiliation, interest, authority, or relationship whether direct or indirect with Nigerians in the UK Community Limited.”
The organisation further disclosed that Mr Kuti has formally resigned from all corporate and administrative roles previously held within NIUK, noting that the resignation has been properly documented. According to the statement, “his resignation has been duly filed and accepted at Companies House, and he no longer holds any position or mandate within NIUK.”
While acknowledging Mr Kuti’s involvement at the early stage of the group’s formation, NIUK stressed that the organisation has since transitioned into what it described as “a structured, transparent, and community-led organisation,” now governed by an interim leadership and clearly established internal processes.
The statement also made it clear that NIUK does not support or associate itself with any actions or public engagements linked to Mr Kuti. “NIUK does not endorse, support, or associate with any activities, statements, representations, or engagements made by Mr Benjamin Kuti,” the organisation said, adding that “any claims by him implying ownership, leadership, representation, or authority over NIUK are false, misleading, and without merit.”
Members of the public were also cautioned against entering into any form of dealings with Mr Kuti under the assumption that he represents the organisation. NIUK warned that “any dealings, agreements, or transactions entered into with Mr Benjamin Kuti are undertaken strictly at their own discretion and risk,” stressing that the organisation “accepts no responsibility or liability for actions taken by, or in association with, this individual.”
NIUK said the disclaimer was issued “in the interest of transparency, clarity, and the protection of the community,” as it seeks to prevent misinformation and safeguard public trust within the Nigerian diaspora in the United Kingdom.
