The Obidient Movement has issued a strongly worded public statement declaring that its support for former Anambra State Governor Peter Obi is strictly limited to his pursuit of the Nigerian presidency, warning that it will not back him as a vice-presidential candidate or compromise its principles under any political arrangement.
In the statement, the movement said its endorsement of Obi is based on what it described as his “competence, integrity, compassion, vision, discipline, economic expertise, democratic credentials, international credibility, and a consistent record of prudent leadership,” arguing that these qualities distinguish him from other leading contenders for the office of President of the Federal Republic of Nigeria.
The group further claimed that this conviction is not isolated, but shared by “a clear majority of Nigerians across all geo-political zones, generations, and political persuasions,” reinforcing its belief that Obi’s ambition aligns with broad national expectations rather than sectional interests.
Addressing speculation surrounding possible political compromises, the Obidient Movement stated unequivocally that it is not mobilised to support Obi as a vice-presidential candidate to anyone. According to the statement, its support is “exclusively for his emergence as President of Nigeria,” a position it said admits no ambiguity.
On Obi’s current political platform, the movement confirmed that it is backing him within the African Democratic Congress (ADC) as he seeks the party’s presidential ticket. It added that it would respect the outcome of the process if it is transparent, credible, and fair. However, the group warned that if the process is compromised, it would take a “united, lawful, and democratic decision” consistent with its core principles.
The statement went further to underline the movement’s personal loyalty to Obi’s presidential ambition, stressing that wherever he chooses to pursue his mandate, provided it is within the law and guided by conscience, the Obidient Movement will follow. It emphasized that its allegiance is to Obi’s leadership vision and what it described as Nigeria’s national redemption, rather than to political convenience or what it termed “compromised platforms.”
While reaffirming its commitment to peaceful and democratic strategies, the movement said it would never compromise its principles or its demand for credible leadership for the sake of expediency. It also noted that it has endured sacrifice, resistance, and misrepresentation due to its belief in a better Nigeria, vowing not to be distracted or intimidated by misinformation or partisan attacks.
Concluding the statement, the Obidient Movement said its commitment to the realization of a Peter Obi presidency remains “unshakable,” describing it as the surest path to national renewal, economic recovery, and accountable governance. It called on Nigerians to remain resolute, united, and focused, insisting that collective effort is required to secure the quality of leadership the country urgently needs.
