Human rights activist and political supporter of Peter Obi, Aisha Yesufu, has said she would openly oppose the former Anambra State governor if he fails to keep his promise to serve only one term as president if elected in 2027.
Yesufu made this known during an interview on Trust TV, where she stressed that Obi’s one-term pledge is not optional and must be respected if he eventually takes office.
Peter Obi had earlier, in 2025, publicly stated that he would serve only one four-year term if elected president. In a post on his official X handle at the time, he described the decision as firm and linked it to his belief in focused and accountable leadership.
Speaking on how seriously she takes that promise, Yesufu recalled a private discussion she had with Obi after the 2023 presidential election. She explained that she personally asked him to assure her that he would not seek a second term.
According to her, Obi clearly confirmed during that conversation that he intended to serve only one term, adding that a lot could be achieved within four years if leadership is well directed.
Yesufu said that assurance strengthened her trust in him and shaped her continued support for his political journey. However, she warned that her loyalty has limits and is tied to honesty and consistency.
She stated that if Obi eventually becomes president and attempts to seek another four years in office, she would be among those who would oppose such a move. She added that keeping one’s word is a matter of principle and should not be taken lightly.
Yesufu maintained that leaders must be held accountable to their promises, noting that trust is built when words are matched with actions.
