Senator Datti Baba-Ahmed has vowed to remain loyal to the Labour Party (LP) ahead of the 2027 general elections, rejecting moves to join other political platforms like his former running mate, Peter Obi.
Baba-Ahmed, 56, who served as Obi’s vice-presidential candidate during the 2023 elections, stressed that he will not abandon the party that gave him a platform to serve Nigerians. Obi had left the LP two years after the last election and joined the African Democratic Congress (ADC), which was promoted by coalition leaders aiming to challenge the ruling All Progressives Congress (APC).
Speaking at a press conference on Wednesday at the LP National Headquarters in Abuja, Baba-Ahmed said he will not follow Obi’s path. He added that he intends to dedicate himself fully to addressing Nigeria’s challenges if given the opportunity in 2027.
He further explained his position regarding the ADC, describing its members as “disgruntled politicians” and expressing that he is not convinced by the platform’s approach.
Baba-Ahmed, who previously represented Kaduna North in the Senate, concluded by emphasizing his commitment to the Labour Party and its ideals. He said, in clear terms, that his loyalty remains with the party, signaling that he intends to contest future elections under the LP banner.
More details on his plans and strategies are expected in the coming weeks as the 2027 election cycle intensifies.
