A social media post credited to a prominent supporter of Labour Party presidential candidate, Peter Obi, has stirred fresh debate online after openly linking the Obidient movement to ethnic and separatist interests.
The controversy followed a post by X user and influencer Vivian Ifeoma, who reacted to a question raised by another verified user, Stephania Omeh, MBA. Omeh had asked Igbo supporters what their next step would be if Obi fails to win a future presidential election.
In her response, Vivian Ifeoma wrote, “Peter Obi is our plan B, Biafra is our plan A,” a statement that quickly gained traction and drew mixed reactions across the platform.
The comment has been interpreted by critics as an admission that ethnic considerations and the long standing Biafra agitation are central motivations for some members of the Obidient movement, which has often presented itself as a national reform driven campaign.
The original question by Omeh read, “Ndi Igbo – what if Obi doesn’t win? Now what? What is your Plan B?” The response from Ifeoma appeared to dismiss alternative political strategies, instead elevating the Biafra cause above electoral participation.
Since the post went viral, Nigerians on X have continued to debate whether the Obidient movement is truly inclusive or largely driven by ethnic sentiment. Some users defended Ifeoma’s position as an expression of free speech, while others argued that such statements undermine claims that the movement represents national unity and good governance.
As of the time of reporting, neither Peter Obi nor the African Democratic Congress (ADC) has responded to the post. However, the comment has added a new layer to ongoing discussions about identity, politics, and separatist movements ahead of future elections in Nigeria.
