The Chief Judge of Rivers State, Justice Simeon Amadi, has turned down a request to set up a judicial panel to investigate Governor Siminalayi Fubara, pointing to an existing court order.
The Rivers State House of Assembly had asked the chief judge to constitute a seven-member panel to probe the governor and his deputy, Ngozi Odu, over allegations of gross misconduct.
However, in a letter dated Tuesday, 20 January 2026, and addressed to the Speaker of the House, Martins Amawhule, Justice Amadi said he could not proceed with the panel because the court order restrained him from taking that step.
More details are expected to follow.
