Nigeria’s senior men’s national football team coach, Eric Chelle, has reportedly tabled a sweeping list of demands before the Nigeria Football Federation as he negotiates a new contract.
Chelle, who took charge of the Super Eagles in January 2025 on a two year agreement with an optional extra year, is said to have submitted a 19 point proposal to the federation on January 22, 2026. The submission followed what was described as detailed checks and verification of the document.
At the heart of the proposal is a request for a monthly salary of $130,000. The figure would cover Chelle, his technical staff and his personal assistant.
The document also outlines extensive welfare and operational requirements. These include a private sport utility vehicle with chauffeur and security, and accommodation in a secure area with uninterrupted 24 hour electricity supply.
He is further requesting a furnished office fitted with a projector for tactical analysis and internet access. The proposal also seeks flight tickets for his wife and two children, specifying business class travel for himself and his wife, and economy class for the children.
Other reported conditions include the provision of Global Positioning System equipment, supply of training materials based on the coach’s demands, and the authority to select international friendly matches depending on opponents.
The coach is also asking to initiate youth development programmes and structured camping plans. He wants formal approval to travel abroad to monitor Nigerian players and to attend domestic league matches to scout talents for the senior national team and age grade sides.
One of the strongest clauses in the proposal calls for no interference in team selection and player invitations. The coach is also demanding that the federation issue proper working contracts to his staff.
He wants salaries paid on or before the 30th of every month, as well as bonuses and allowances in line with the federation’s structure, including for his personal assistant. The proposal ends with a request for monthly meetings involving all national team coaches.
The Nigeria Football Federation has yet to make a public statement on the reported demands. The outcome of the negotiations is expected to influence the future direction of the Super Eagles.
